Anne Paceo – Laborie Jazz – France
[www.myspace.com/annepaceo / www.annepaceo.com](https://www.myspace.com/annepaceo / www.annepaceo.com)
This 24-year-old drummer, nominated for the 2008 Django d’Or in the “New Talent/Stage Revelation 2007/2008” category, has won over both professionals and the public. After around a hundred jam sessions and fifty concerts in a few months exploring auditory territories, she defines her own space by trying various formations. It is with her trio “Triphase” that she invites the cream of French and international jazz to Duc des Lombards: Henri Texier, Rhoda Scott, Julien Lourau, Rick Margitza…, concerts broadcast live on France Musique.
Her sparkling, precise, and enlightened play has earned her numerous awards: 1st prize for soloist and 1st prize for group at the Sunside Trophies in 2007, invited to close the IAJE annual conference in New York, opening for Charlie Haden’s Liberation Music Orchestra.
The first eponymous record of Triphase has been available since October 14, 2008.
Dave Stapleton Quintet Westbury Music- UK
Enthusiastic reviews in The Guardian, Independent on Sunday, and Jazzwise as well as a series of concerts in the UK and the Balkans (including jazz festivals in Zagreb and Belgrade) have put the Dave Stapleton Quintet on the jazz scene across the Channel. Indeed, on “The House Always Wins,” the title of Stapleton’s 4th album in 2007, one is carried away by catchy titles, tinged with rock power and Balkan inspiration.
The rhythm section is solid and allows the languishing melodic hooks of the trumpet and saxophone to settle in. Each musician knows where they come from, recognizes the strength of their partners, and what each has to offer to the collective. We gladly accept the gift that is handed to us, of accessible sophistication and unquestionably communicable energy.

Misinterprotato -Jazzhead – Australia
[www.misinterprotato.com / www.myspace.com/misinterprotato](www.misinterprotato.com / www.myspace.com/misinterprotato)
With striking audacity, this Australian trio moves from introspective to unrestrained, laying the foundations of an intelligent, spacious jazz. Misinterprotato stretches in its own way the capacities of the piano/bass/drum formation by combining them with avant-garde elements, envisioning their music with a fresh and constructive approach.
This ability to mix dense improvisations with ethereal atmospheres, borrowing from modern jazz, ambient music, rock, and contemporary music, has a knack for captivating diverse audiences. Three albums and tours in Japan, Canada, and the UK allow Misinterprotato to reach an international audience.
The group plans to release a new album in late 2009, an Australian tour with Norwegian saxophonist Frøy Aagre and a collaborative effort with the Australian contemporary music ensemble Topology.
Dorantes World Music Factory – Spain
[www.dorantes.es](https://www.dorantes.es)
“Instruments are not born flamenco. All instruments can be flamenco. It’s the musicians who must feel flamenco.” Born in the land of Lebrija in the south of Seville, David Peña Dorantes was raised in a family that lives and feels the cante jondo and the music of the south, deeply. Not one branch of his family tree that does not refer to a sacred monster of Andalusian music and the history of flamenco.
Instead of following in the footsteps of his guitarist predecessors, Dorantes began to study piano, harmony, and composition at the Royal Superior Conservatory of Seville. He trains hard, drawing inspiration from his roots, and learning all kinds of musical structures, from the most classic to the most avant-garde.
Praised by Sir Yehudi Menuhin himself for his performance at Mont De Marsan in 1996, Dorantes has gradually gained a reputation as a 21st-century flamenco musician among fans, professionals, and specialized critics. As a passionate all-rounder, he has also worked for the theatre, classic and flamenco ballets, and composed original scores for cinema…
You will be able to experience this manifesto of modern flamenco at MIDEM 2009, where Dorantes will be accompanied by the equally eminent flamenco cantaor, Arcángel.

Frøy Aagre – Pling Music – Norway
[www.froyaagre.com / www.myspace.com/froyaagre](www.froyaagre.com / www.myspace.com/froyaagre)
Influenced by Wayne Shorter as well as Bach, by Kenny Wheeler as well as Messiaen, or even Astor Piazzolla, Frøy Aagre is the most critically acclaimed saxophonist in Norway. Melodies give rise to unexpected rhythms, or perhaps it’s the other way around… When it comes to unveiling her intimate and cozy universe, sometimes syncopated, Frøy Aagre likes to blur the distinctions between written and improvised.
And it can be said that it succeeds for her. Surrounded by Andreas Ulvo, Audun Ellingsen, and Freddy Wike, she has managed to elevate her second album, Countryside, to the top 10 jazz albums in 2007 according to the newspaper Dagsavisen. The formation aims to sound like a group, and the Norwegian quartet has developed its own musical interactions, each relying on the other. We are transported by powerful compositions, rolling like a countryside landscape.
After recently touring the United States to promote Countryside, Frøy Aagre will fly to Japan in February 2009 and participate in the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival in Australia at the end of the year.
Magnus Lindgren’s Batucada Jazz – Sweden
[www.magnuslindgren.com / www.myspace.com/magnuslindgren](www.magnuslindgren.com / www.myspace.com/magnuslindgren)
Magnus Lindgren is one of the emblematic figures of jazz “made in Sweden”. He founded a quartet in 1997, starting a career on a high note: their first record “Way Out” was nominated for the “Jazz in Sweden” Grammy Awards in 1999. Herbie Hancock, James Ingram, Barbara Hendricks, and Lisa Ekdahl… all collaborations the multi-instrumentalist can boast of.
It’s with a new line-up and a new record that arrives Magnus Lindgren. “Behind The Elbow – A journey through Rio” reveals his latest wanderings. During the Brazilian summer of 2008, the Scandinavian musician married the samba in an exciting recording session in Rio de Janeiro.
