The Story of a Trader tells the panic-filled weekend of a major bank where the CEO learns that a young trader bet 25 billion and due to the emerging subprime crisis, there is not enough liquidity to resolve the matter smoothly. After unsuccessfully trying to borrow money by seeking government support, the CEO does everything to save himself.
The play attempts to reconstruct the mechanism and management of the crisis while also conveying the emotions of the protagonists. It then dives into pure fiction, as it imagines a confrontation between the CEO and the trader, although they never met in reality. Indeed, the Kerviel affair was the starting point for the writing of The Story of a Trader.
