Xavier Garcia and Fouziya Ayoub have announced their candidacy in the 7th canton of Nice. The upcoming departmental elections (formerly cantonal elections) will take place on March 22 and 29, 2015.
This year, the departmental elections are replacing the cantonal elections and are appointing members of the Departmental Council (formerly General Council) within the canton framework.
The general councilors elected in 2008 and 2011 will all be replaced in March 2015 by departmental councilors. Another new feature is that candidates now run in pairs, consisting of a woman and a man.
“Xavier Garcia and I are from the neighborhood. That’s why we are candidates in this area. I am a daughter of Bon Voyage and have lived here for 30 years. Xavier and I have known each other for a long time, and we share a very strong mutual trust,” explains Fouziya Ayoub.
“I am a child of La Trinitรฉ. Fouziya and I complement each other both in terms of personality and geographically. I couldn’t imagine being a candidate with anyone other than her. We know every corner of the canton but also the feeling of neglect that animates its residents,” adds Xavier Garcia, the first departmental secretary of the PS.
Priorities for this canton
Without hesitation, Xavier Garcia answers, “overcoming isolation.” For him, “the residents feel isolated due to the public transport of the metropolis that they have paid for like all taxpayers. The UMP officials must be held accountable.”
“I was a student at Calmette High School, and I lived in La Trinitรฉ. I remember it took me an hour to get back home. Today, students face the same situation. This proves that in 20 years, nothing has changed in terms of transportation. The metropolis has not kept its promise to serve Ariane and La Trinitรฉ with the tramway,” he laments.
Regarding this sense of neglect, several reasons were mentioned by the pair. “The Ariane incinerator, the tramway that stops 100 meters from the start of the canton, the prison and the landfill that they wanted to install there, the abandonment of the Anatole France area, an industrial hub, left fallow for nearly three decades without anything being done by either the metropolis or the town of La Trinitรฉ,” are injustices listed by the first secretary of the PS.
