It was after his adolescence that Zucchero began composing and writing songs. In the mid-80s, he formed “Zucchero & The Randy Jackson Band,” but it was only with the release of his album “Blues” in 1992 that Zucchero literally exploded onto the scene. The album remained number one on the charts for an entire year in Italy and was exported worldwide. Thanks to his extraordinary voice and a string of hits, Zucchero became the biggest Italian star to find international acclaim.
Over the past 15 years, several albums followed: “Rispetto” (1992), “Misere” (1994), “Diamante” (1995), “Blue Sugar” (1998), and “Overdose d’Amore” (1999). A first Best Of served as a tidal wave (1 million copies sold in France) and then Zucchero returned in the spring of 2002 with an album titled “Shake.” Two years later, he released “Zu & Co,” a concept album featuring all his hits in duets with some of the greatest international artists: Sting, Sheryl Crow, Eric Clapton, Johnny Hallyday, and more.
This album experienced enormous success: 250,000 copies have been sold in France to date, propelled by a series of prime-time shows, the tracks “Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime” and more recently “Baïla Morena”! This single, which is none other than the anthem of the cult film “Les Bronzés 3,” was No. 1 in single sales, No. 1 in downloads, Top 5 in radio and TV airplay. In total, 350,000 singles have been sold, and as many, if not more, ringtones.
Zucchero released his new studio album “Fly” last October, produced by Don Was (the latter has worked with the greatest, from Bob Dylan to Paula Abdul, including the Rolling Stones and Willie Nelson. He even snagged a Grammy Award for “Producer Of The Year” in 1994) and finally sets his bags down in Nice as part of his international tour.
