2017 Presidential Election: Anticor Calls on Candidates to Sign an Ethics Charter

Latest News

On the occasion of the presidential election on April 23 and May 7, 2017, Anticor (this cross-party association does not support any candidate) is launching its recurrent call to candidates to sign and commit to observing an ethical charter.

“Active democracy is the antidote to the disconnect between the population and elected officials,” assert Gilles Rainero and Jean-Nöel Falcou (co-representatives in the Alpes-Maritimes) during the press presentation of the launch of this initiative aimed at putting pressure on the candidates.

The association invites the various candidates to include in their program the ten proposals outlined in its ethical charter for the presidential election, in order to fight against corruption and the waste of public funds.

Some points in this charter are well-known and controversial, such as the absence of a criminal record, non-accumulation of mandates and the limitation of their renewal, the abolition of the parliamentary reserve that promotes clientelism, among others.

The problem is that in words everyone agrees to put an “end” to these distortions of public service, but in practice, everyone benefits from them.

“We do not have a numerical target but we want to stimulate debate,” says the national president, Jean-Christophe Picard from Nice.

While it does not support any particular candidate, Anticor calls on future voters to only support candidates who would make these commitments.
