Nice Wars, the War of the Patricks

Latest News

The municipal deadline in Nice is approaching, and candidates are starting to jockey for position in the election. In the camp of the broad left, two politicians seem to stand out for a single seat: Patrick Mottard and Patrick Allemand.

Patrick Mottard was the candidate of the Nice Plurielle list in the last municipal elections and surprised everyone by being only a few thousand votes behind the current Mayor of Nice, Mr. Jacques Peyrat. A professor of law at the University of Nice, he is currently the leader of the municipal opposition composed of socialist, green, communist, and alternative elected officials.

Patrick Allemand is currently the First Vice President of the Regional Council, chaired by Michel Vauzelle, and also holds a mandate as General Councilor acquired in Nice’s twelfth district.

As we can see, the position of the “municipal” candidate representing the broad left of Nice is likely to be contested between these two men who share the same first name. It remains to be seen whose last name will appear on the posters and leaflets praising his merits.

In both camps, the struggle, although not final, is in full swing, and everyone uses their charms and arguments to build a team among the elected officials and activists of Nice.

A slight shadow, however, in this hunting ground are the relentless taunts thrown between the supporters of one and the followers of the other by any means available to them (websites, discussion forums, media…).

Unfortunately, Nice Premiรจre does not escape this rule, and the latest articles about the left in Nice have led to numerous reactions that sometimes forced us to censor, which we apply without any pleasure. Other sites or blogs, such as Nissa 2008, are also the scene of feuds that are far from over.

In the realm of the internet, the two Patricks are not left behind, and each of them has a website accompanied by a blog where you can find their latest news. Patrick Mottard even recently launched a monthly updated web TV.

Much like the national left, Nice seems to have a hard time finding cohesion behind a leader who is slow to stand out, while it would be far more beneficial for the broad left of Nice to stop thinking singularly.
