But here we are, dear internet users! Tahiti is in Nice or Nice is in Tahiti! Either way, it’s up to you!
Here is an announcement that will surely seduce you with this idyllic journey…
Dance and music are integral parts of the traditional lives of the men and women of Polynesia. It is the expression of every event and the pretext for rejoicing of all kinds.
Dance and tradition have adapted to popular customs to merge into a universal and timeless art that tells the entire history of Polynesia.
Endowed with this cultural heritage, the TIKI THEATRE troupe, founded 20 years ago by Olivier Briac, expresses itself with excellence in rich and varied choreographies, blending tradition and modernity. A complete showman, Olivier Briac, after having traveled the world, has dedicated his time and energy to the service of Polynesian dance and culture which has expanded his scope of creativity.
At showtime, the dancers and musicians of TIKI THEATRE will enchant you. Their program will take you beyond Tahiti, exploring all the dances of the Pacific (Hawaii, New Zealand, Samoa, etc.) rhythmically accompanied by traditional instruments: large drum, nasal flute, pu (conch shell), pahu (small drum), ukuleles, to’ere (vertical drum struck with a stick) and mesmerizing choral songs. You will also be captivated by the magnificence of the richly crafted costumes, made of feathers, fibers, barks, foliage, and shells, which gives them, by their authenticity, a much more spiritual dimension.
Pagnes, pareos, and long dresses reveal the voluptuousness of the swaying of the vahinés* and the masculinity of the tanés in endless combinations of dances and songs. It is the expression of a true language that tells marvelous stories rhythmized by the harmony and grace of bodies and hands in dances that symbolize the epics and emotions of life.
For the artists of TIKI THEATRE, sharing with the audience the celebration and soul of their art is the goal they strive to achieve daily.
So, tempted by this haven of peace and serenity? Then head to the Palais de la Méditerranée this Saturday, February 17 at 8:30 PM.
