In the night from Monday to Tuesday, the posters of candidate Jérôme Rivière were torn down. The eleven-meter banner featuring the name of the candidate and his deputy has disappeared. The candidate will file a complaint and has expressed his displeasure with the atmosphere at the start of the campaign on Nice-Premium.
Nice-Premium: What do you think about the damage to your campaign office?
Jérôme Rivière: For ten years I have been elected from this district, first as a deputy assistant, then as a regional councilor, and finally for five years as a deputy. I have never witnessed such actions in a campaign!
The damage is only material, but it slightly disrupts the progress of my electoral campaign since for nearly 48 hours I do not have an information banner on the facade of my office on Barla Street. Yet, you know that communication is one of the keys to a good campaign.
And all this costs money…
NP: The campaign office of Eric Ciotti was damaged, an incident with the identitarians for Patrick Allemand… The campaign in the 1st district is eventful. What are your feelings about these facts and misdeeds?
JR: I hope that these incidents, which are irrelevant for the democratic debate, will cease. But it’s also important that some people don’t use a real incident with the identitarians to blame them for all the violent actions in this campaign…
I have no idea who committed this aggression against my office; I am not pointing fingers at anyone.
NP: What steps are you taking following this incident?
JR: I have, of course, filed a complaint for damage and theft. I also called the public prosecutor Eric de Montgolfier to express my concerns about the way this electoral campaign is unfolding in my district.
He has assured me of his full attention so that democracy can proceed smoothly here as elsewhere.
