Drowsiness in everyday life is a sign of a disruption in the alternation between wakefulness and sleep, a fundamental sequence that sets the rhythm of our daily lives and marks our connection to our Earth and its course.
Drowsiness, often accompanied by fatigue, most commonly results from insomnia, of which it is the most frequent complication, and more rarely from brain diseases that manifest as sleep attacks. It also quite often results from the use of sedatives, medications, alcohol, or cannabis. The risk is well-known and greatly feared: accidents due to loss of control of a vehicle or machinery.
A problem with drowsiness is thus a sleep problem. A medical consultation with a general practitioner is necessary to define its cause and treat it. If needed, the doctor may refer to the assessments and recommendations of a certified Sleep Center.
