French Cup of pétanque clubs: Nice never dies

Latest News

Always troubled, never outpaced, the Niçois have once again made their mark on the cup with big ears. Even though Metz contested the supremacy of the Azur region until the end.

duc_nice.jpg This 12th edition of the Coupe de France des Clubs has provided at least two lessons. Nice will be able to live without Philippe Quintais, that’s for sure, although the aura of the man who was the leader of the DUC for almost a decade has constantly weighed on Nyons.

The Aiglons also demonstrated an exemplary team spirit, never faltering, even in crucial moments. As proof, Metz announced their intentions by matching them blow for blow in the tête-à-tête. Nice responded with a fanny delivered by Lacroix and Cortès, and the victory of the atypical mix Roche-Hervo. At 12/9 in favor of Nice, the alarm was already sounding for Metz, as the people from Lorraine then had to win both matches in triples.

As usual, the DUC fortified the mixed team by pairing Séverine Roche with the two world champions, Lacroix and Suchaud. Facing them, Metz lined up Barzin-Weibel-Hémon, totaling 19 world champion titles in the arena!

Dynamited by the mixed team

The second match pitted Hervo-Cortès-Delforge against Lozano-Le Bourgeois-Machnik. The unfortunate Hervo, decidedly not in his element, bore the brunt of his poor performance and left the game in favor of Montoro after just two rounds of play…
And it was the Niçois mixed team that went on to dynamite everything in only two rounds of play. The formation led by Séverine Roche was ahead 6/4 when a four-point round propelled the DUC to the lead. Stronger than ever when it came to concluding, the Azur team doubled down in the following round with a winning shot for three points, signed Séverine Roche. Courageous and stoic, the Messins suddenly found themselves crucified, even as their second trio was leading 11/10 and battling for the final victory.

2,563 clubs at the start, and the DUC of Nice at the finish, it’s a bit like football where it is often said that in the end Germany wins. The Niçois recite their own maxim.
