After the development of a fleet of clean vehicles—including electric cars, bicycles, and scooters—the Nice Côte d’Azur Community wishes to go further in its approach to protecting the environment.
A budget of 100,000 euros was approved at the Community Council on April 18, which will allow for the provision of a subsidy (for individual contributions up to 400 euros) to buyers of electric two-wheelers. This is a very good initiative that, albeit symbolically in practical terms, indicates the public institution’s choice regarding urban transportation.
Another measure adopted by the community body tries to limit the negative effects of pollution, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and prevent noise pollution related to vehicle traffic.
From there, it would be desirable for the public vehicle fleet to quickly convert to new anti-pollution models as soon as possible to be the first reference for citizens.
Naturally, since good examples often need to come from the top, we expect the President of the Urban Community, followed by his fellow mayors and other local and national elected officials, to opt in the future for vehicles consistent with their actions. We have no doubt that this will be the case.
