Illiteracy affects 9% of the population aged 18 to 65 in France, according to Insee. This constitutes a real handicap in daily life. It results in difficulties in writing a shopping list, carrying out administrative tasks, finding one’s way on a map, etc. The “Reading for All” movement in Nice has developed a program to combat this social, moral, and educational phenomenon. The principle? A writer visits a school for one week. It’s an opportunity for students to establish a connection with the writer who brings imagination, words, dreams, and invention. From October 11 to 15, 2010, students will meet Laurent Seksik, both a doctor and a writer from Nice. He will talk to them about his books: “Albert Einstein” and “The Last Days of Stefan Zweig.”
