Winner of the contest last year, it is now France’s turn to host the 2023 edition, and Nice has been designated as the host city.
With his performance of “Oh Maman!”, which led him to victory, Lissandro, 13, made France shine from the Armenian city of Yerevan in the previous edition. This year, the eyes of millions of viewers will be on the mythical stage of the Palais Nikaรฏa in Nice. On Sunday, November 26, 2023, the 21st winner of the junior singing contest will be selected during a show broadcast by France Tรฉlรฉvisions.
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest gives children aged 9 to 14 from around twenty countries the opportunity to represent their country’s colors with their voices. “Junior Eurovision is a kind-hearted competition that shows how much the cultural and musical power of our new generations is present in the world,” explains Alexandra Redde-Amiel, head of the French delegation.
International Reach
“It is an honor for the City of Nice to host a renowned European competition like Junior Eurovision, which brings together around twenty participating countries and over 33 million viewers,” delights Christian Estrosi. The internationally scoped competition places the city in the media spotlight and garners attention on social media throughout the contest duration. A cultural influence that goes hand in hand with significant economic benefits. The mayor of Nice mentions “over 5,000 overnight stays generated just for the event.”
“I am very happy that this second edition of Junior Eurovision organized by France is being held in Nice, a city of history and culture symbolic of our country,” states Delphine Ernotte-Cunci, President of France Tรฉlรฉvisions and President of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union).
France holds the most victories (two), tied with Poland. It is not yet known who will represent France for this Mediterranean edition. On the adult side, La Zarra with her song “รvidemment” will represent France next May in Liverpool.
