The Autonomic Mediterranean fair presents itself as the unique place for information and dialogue in the Southeast of France on the themes of accessibility, disability, and loss of autonomy. It will be held on December 2 and 3 at the Nice Acropolis Exhibition Center. This 5th edition is the must-attend event for professionals and the general public.
83% of French people feel helpless when faced with dependency*
Exclusive Viavoice โ Autonomic survey
At all ages of life, dependency is one of the major challenges of our society.
“Only 16% of French people feel capable of organizing themselves in the face of a loved one’s loss of autonomy*.”
This issue requires effective and tangible responses in the coming years, from both the public sector and private actors.
DEPENDENCY, A COLLECTIVE CHALLENGE
The Viavoice โ Autonomic survey reveals that “42% of French people primarily associate old age with loss of autonomy.” Old age is first associated with its ailments and particularly with dependency, which has recently been established as the “5th social protection risk.”
As a corollary of the aging population, the number of dependent elderly people will increase by 50% by 2040, according to INSEE. Collective solidarity must therefore be rethought to face these new changes. And while 83% of French people estimate that taking care of someone losing autonomy would be “quite difficult (42%) or even very difficult (41%) in terms of organization,” they need to be informed and helped to find solutions. This is the main objective of the Autonomic Mediterranean fair.
IN SEARCH OF SOLUTIONS
Autonomic Mediterranean will host conferences and forums to discuss 2010’s social developments. It will gather existing solutions to meet the expectations of disabled and dependent elderly people regarding their living environment, transport, personal services, employment, education, training, culture, etc.
Many new products will be presented by the 180 exhibitors, providing concrete answers to improve daily autonomy.
42% of French people primarily associate old age with loss of autonomy
Dependency is a reality that many will probably have to face at some point in life. A reality accentuated by increased longevity.
The moral and material pressures exerted by loss of autonomy are strong and increasingly complex constraints. But French society is still heavily influenced by persistent taboos and false images on all these issues. Disability and dependency are still poorly understood and feared. We aim to “unmask” and demonstrate a different reality. Many institutions, federations, and associations will be present to offer advice and answer visitors’ questions. A large number of technical aids, innovations, new technologies in home automation, and adapted vehicles will be showcased on the stands.
Solutions exist, they just need to be identified!
