The Nice rugby players are experiencing a tumultuous start to the season. The results are not always promising. While the Pitchounettes are starting their season well, the Nice men are struggling. The trend reversed before the break: the girls are in doubt, and the boys are gradually regaining confidence.
A club going through significant financial turmoil and teams that aren’t showing their best game: this is the assessment of this start of the rugby season in Nice.
The Nice players are making a comeback
The RNCA had a very poor start to the 2011/2012 season. The Fédérale 1 spared no mercy for the club from the French Riviera. The first six matches were just a series of defeats, punctuated by a draw.
The team finally woke up and won its last three matches, including a 94 to 0 victory against a very weak Marseilles team. Has the group rediscovered its rugby and its serenity? The players will have to prove it in the second part of the season.
The Nice players, eighth in the standings, will host Avenir Castanéen, third in the pool, on January 14th. A match that will allow them to test themselves after their December boost in confidence.
Next match: RNCA – Avenir Castanéen: Saturday, January 14th, 7 p.m., at the Arboras Stadium
Pitchounettes on a rollercoaster
After a rather promising start to the season, the Pitchounettes faltered. Is it due to a lack of confidence and cohesion? Or is it due to a misunderstanding in defense and a lack of success in attack? The fact remains that the Nice women did not show their best rugby. LOU and Dijon made short work of a disorganized purple team. The most recent disappointment was their trip to Parisian lands (7 – 3). The defense held strong for three-quarters of the match, but a positional error cost the Nice women dearly.
The Pitchounettes will have to show upon resumption that they are capable of prevailing, as they did in the first two matches. On January 14th, the women from the French Riviera, second in the standings, will travel to Nancy, fourth in the pool. A defensive bonus point would allow them to stay in the race for the finals.
Next match: Nancy Seichamps Rugby – Pitchounettes: Saturday, January 14th, 3 p.m., at the Louis Revello Stadium.
