The first part of the All-day Basketball took place on June 11, 2011, outdoors at the Vauban stadium. Many basketball players and athletes were present but not necessarily for the competition. Due to a lack of participants โ 4 teams instead of 16 โ everything had to be reorganized. Kevin Pinsault, Mรฉlissa Zircon, and Florent Droy managed to handle it very well.
“We were supposed to have 16 teams present. The qualifying round was to be held on June 11, 2011, with the finals the following day. Four teams eventually showed up: Team O, Ceram, CNN, and P4,” states Florent Droy, a sports management student. Indeed, there is a bit of a problem. A problem that needs to be quickly resolved to retain the precious participants.
Florent Droy, Mรฉlissa Zircon, and Kevin Pinsault are all students of the IAE of Nice Sophia-Antipolis. They study sports management. They quickly reorganized their study project schedule. “In the morning, basketball initiation for the children. There were about ten of them. It was nice. We then launched the adult tournament with 5 on 5,” informs Florent Droy. Surrounded by amateur basketball players, the four teams faced each other on the central court in pool matches, followed by a small final and a final. All this accompanied by music with the presence of DJ Joyce. Some local artists came to join him to entertain during breaks: Skullkid, Kapos, and Redspit.
Results?
Team O, led by Ousmene Elayat, won the tournament in the final against the CERAM team led by Eric Lecomte. One point separated the winner from the loser: the end of the match was thrilling. Team P4 took third place in the tournament by defeating CNN in the small final.
Each team was rewarded with T-shirts, bottles, and other items offered by the General Council of the Alpes Maritimes as well as by the Nice Cรดte d’Azur urban community. The winners received one-week memberships offered by Fitlane, along with bags and balls.
On June 12, 2011, another tournament begins. Basketball players will compete in 3×3 at the Leyrit hall, Fornero Menei Street. Many prizes are still to be won. Two additional contests are organized: dunking โ where the ball is accompanied into the basket โ and shooting โ the action of throwing the ball into the basket from as far away as possible. At stake are a full outfit and a high-quality ball. Everything is offered by the tournament sponsor: Basketstore.fr. Many other prizes are to be won. So, whether you’re experienced or not, put on your sneakers, the organizing team is waiting for you!
