Super 8 – J.J. Abrams

Latest News

J.J. Abrams, the man behind Lost and the reboot of Star Trek, returns with an original project, overseen by Steven Spielberg. Super 8 is a sort of mix between E.T, The Goonies, and Alien.

A group of kids is shooting an amateur film when they witness a massive train accident. Soon, the peaceful little town where they live becomes the stage for mysterious incidents…

A film that banks on nostalgia

Super 8 contains all the ingredients of the films from our childhood (if you were a child more than 20 years ago): BMX bikes, walkie-talkies, firecrackers, and nighttime outings behind the parents’ backs. The ambiance of the era is perfectly recreated, making the film absolutely delightful. The story itself is quite classic but offers its share of suspense, emotion, and plot twists. Humor is ever-present, the kids are absolutely hilarious, and some of the secondary characters are excellent.
From a technical standpoint, there is nothing to criticize; the film is spectacular, the effects are well-crafted, in short, it’s a feast.
In terms of critiques, there are some drawn-out parts in the middle of the film, a slight lack of surprises in the storyline, and an overuse of emotions at the end, but nothing too serious.

Conclusion

Super 8 is, therefore, an excellent surprise, offering a very enjoyable moment of entertainment and nostalgia, for a time when we knew how to make fun movies with kids…
