Caroline Garcia and Myrtille Georges both qualified for the 2nd round at the expense of players who came through the qualifications. On the other hand, Irina Ramialison, Irena Pavlovic, and more surprisingly, Pauline Parmentier, were eliminated.
After several weeks out due to a shoulder injury, Pauline Parmentier, the finalist of the Open two years ago, chose Cagnes-sur-Mer for her return, less than a month before Roland-Garros. In search of her bearings, she fell in the first round against the German Anne Schaefer, a qualifier, in two straight sets (2-6 3-6).
For Irina Ramialison, facing Mandy Minella, the number 2 seed, the challenge was too great. Despite a good fight, the young French player, who brilliantly came through the qualifiers, was defeated in 2 sets (4-6 5-7). The same logic applied to Irena Pavlovic, who was eliminated by Arantxa Rus, the number 4 seed (6-4 6-4)
Myrtille Georges, on the other hand, made good use of her wild card by winning, not without difficulties, against the Russian Vera Dushevina (2-6 6-4 6-2). Caroline Garcia, last year’s semi-finalist, came out on top in three sets against Daniela Seguel, the world’s 514th player (6-3 3-6 6-1).
This Wednesday, the 2nd Round will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Virginie Razzano facing Romanian number 7 seed Alexandra Cadantu, ranked 98th globally. Myrtille Georges will conclude the day against Mandy Minella, ranked 79th by the WTA.
