Organized by the Union of French Oenologists, the Mondial du Rosé® will take place in Cannes on April 27th. This event is under the patronage of the three most committed organizations in promoting the global wine industry: the International Organization of Vine and Wine, the International Union of Oenologists, and VinoFED. Among the wine-producing countries present at the Mondial du Rosé® are Germany, Bolivia, Chile, Spain, the United States, France, Italy, Lebanon, Morocco, and Switzerland.
The jury (50 international expert tasters) will taste nearly 900 rosé wines from 29 countries: a record level of participation since the first edition of the Mondial in 2004 (556 wines), which attests to the growing recognition of the event by winemakers worldwide.
Rosé wines: a growing market. Let us recall that, mainly under the influence of oenologists, the quality of rosé wines has significantly improved over the past fifteen years. Once scarcely regarded, these wines now exhibit excellent aromatic qualities, and their color is more pale.
They continue to win over more consumers, to the point where they represent almost 10% of the world’s wine consumption.
And sales continue to grow… This highlights the economic stakes that rosés represent for France, the world’s leading producer (6.9 million hl, up by 35% in 9 years, 28% of the global total).
France is also the leading consumer country of rosé: 35% of global consumption, 11.8 liters per year per capita, that is, ¼ of the wine consumption in France.
