The PCF held its political comeback this Saturday, September 5, 2026 on Place Saint-Roch. The objective of the new political year is the senatorial elections on September 27th. The lead candidate, Francis Tujague, announced a union of left-wing and environmentalist forces to block the far right in the Alpes-Maritimes.

The French Communist Party (PCF) 06 gathered in front of its headquarters for its political comeback this Saturday, September 5. In a festive atmosphere accompanied by a music group, the PCF 06 federation, led by Julien Picot, particularly addressed the issue of the senatorial elections on September 27, 2026.

Francis Tujague, mayor of Contes for thirty years, was present to announce that he was the lead candidate on the united left and ecology list for the senatorial elections. This is part of the PCF 06’s fight against «the far right which is rising in an extremely dangerous way», particularly in the Alpes-Maritimes according to the candidate.

A union to block the far right

Alongside communist senator Ian Brossat, other figures from the Nice political landscape appeared, such as environmentalists Juliette Chesnel-Le Roux and Laurent Lanquar-Castiel. The mayor of the only communist city in the Alpes-Maritimes explains this union as a need that transcends partisan differences : «The existence of differences is certain. But are they important enough to separate or confront each other? No!»

The stakes for the list are to win a seat at the Palace of Luxembourg. In the last elections they were only short by about twenty votes, the mayor explains. For September 27, the list presented is naturally led by Francis Tujague who reached agreement with all the actors. The candidacy then includes Fouzia Ayoub, Jean-Louis Fiori, Michèle Muratore, Jean-Louis Alunno, followed by alternates Chantal Carrié and Cédric Garoyan.

The reason is clear: « the department has become the sinister laboratory» of «the far right (editor’s note: UDR) and the extreme right (editor’s note: RN), who are more than ever at the gates of power», cheers Fouzia Ayoub, applauded by the audience. Julien Picot describes this list as «united and republican.» According to PCF 06, it could counter the creation of a National Rally parliamentary group in the Senate.

A program focused on local services

The program defended by the list is particularly based on support for local authorities and the maintenance of local public services. Each of the personalities essentially denounced the hypocrisy of right-wing parliamentarians present in the National Assembly and the Senate. Francis Tujague pointed out in particular the vote to reduce state grants to local authorities by eight billion euros, paralyzing them in their duties.

The united left list then proposes ten main axes that they will pursue at the Palace of Luxembourg if they obtain one or more seats. Rent controls, free local transport, access to healthcare particularly in medical deserts, etc. The socialist measures are numerous.
