The Municipal Police is gearing up for the summer. With the influx of tourists, security will be reinforced starting June 14th until September. This plan coincides with the appointment of Christophe Darmon at the head of the Municipal Police alongside Sylviane Casanova starting September 1, 2013.
Concretely, patrols will be intensified during the most sensitive time slots and in the most frequently visited tourist sites. More than 225 officers will be active during the day with a relay of 27 to 37 officers for the night.
Nautical brigade, equestrian patrol, and foot patrol for more visible areas will focus on deterrence and prevention. Nothing extraordinary, but each year the summer season is fraught with security challenges. In a city where tourism is a major asset, law enforcement must be present everywhere. To this end, cooperation with the national police is also being strengthened.
A coordination agreement specifying the respective areas of intervention for the Municipal Police and the National Police will soon be signed before the end of this month between the Mayor and the Prefect. Regardless, the action areas of the two services are already designated. Old Nice for the National Police and pedestrian area and seaside for the Municipal Police.
