After the decision of the Administrative Court to reject the three appeals filed against the Nice tramway line 2, Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, wanted to respond.
“This decision of the Administrative Court once again demonstrates, if it was needed, the seriousness and credibility of our project. It is a decision that the vast majority of the people of Nice will welcome with satisfaction, as they are legitimately eager to be able to reach Nice Côte d’Azur Airport from the Port in 26 minutes.
Some political opponents, following a purely political strategy, had decided to play on fears and block our project, even though their informal complaints had been rejected by the Prefect of both yesterday and today and validated by eight state administrations.
I note that none of the arguments raised were upheld, either on technical feasibility or funding. These arguments were also not retained by the five investigating commissioners appointed by the administrative court who examined our project during the public inquiry.
The obstinacy of a few, including some opposition elected officials, to thwart a project awaited by an immense majority of our citizens has caused a year’s delay to the construction. A year that could have been used to commence the initial works.
I urge those who have failed to delay this project, beyond partisan differences, to actively support this ecological, reliable, and rapid project, whose construction will start as planned before the end of 2013, in the general interest of the women and men of Nice.”
