The 20th edition of the Mediterranean Games will take place in Italy, in Taranto, from August 21 to September 3. The Monegasque delegation will bring together 17 athletes across 8 disciplines.
The Principality is presenting a multi-generational delegation. On one hand, there are seasoned competitors and medalists who are returning to a competition they know well. This is the case, for example, of table tennis player Xiaoxin Yang, making a comeback after maternity leave, who is aiming for a third medal following the silver medal in Tarragona in 2018, and then gold in Oran in 2022. In artistic gymnastics, Kévin Crovetto will compete in his fourth Mediterranean Games after Mersin (2013), Tarragona and Oran. Jérémy Moutout (sailing) and Marvin Gadeau (judo, +100 kg) will both be at their third participations.
On the other hand, several newcomers will experience their very first Mediterranean Games. In athletics, Marie-Charlotte Gastaud (400m hurdles), Thomas Carreda (100m) and Téo Bottin (100m) will make their debuts, as will Louise Debeaumont, in sailing.
The highlights of this edition
For the first time, padel is on the program of the Mediterranean Games. Nicolas Fedoroff will be paired with Noah Minioni. At only 16 years old, the latter will be the youngest athlete in the delegation. This is the second appearance of the Monegasque Olympic Committee in padel at a major international multisport competition, following the European Games in Krakow-Malopolska in 2023.
In equestrian sports, Monaco will compete for the first time in the team event, with Eileen Delescule Thomel, Anastasia Nielsen and Iñigo López de La Osa Franco. The competition will take place within an equestrian center set up in a former quarry.
Bowls, a family affair
In bowls, this edition will be marked by family. Guillaume Campillo (precision shooting and men’s doubles) will compete in his third Mediterranean Games, after Pescara (2009) and Oran. His wife Sabrina Campillo will take part in her second Games, while their daughter Giulia, 20 years old, will experience the competition for the first time. Mother and daughter will be paired in women’s doubles, a powerful image for the “red and white” team. Alain Costa, in men’s doubles, will be the eldest member of the delegation.
Games born in 1951, a Monegasque history since 1955
Created in 1951 in Alexandria, the Mediterranean Games bring together every four years the nations of the three continents bordering the Mediterranean. Placed under the aegis of the International Committee of Mediterranean Games, they constitute one of the major international sporting events after the Olympic Games. For Monaco, the adventure began in Barcelona in 1955. After 16 participations, until Oran in 2022, the Principality returns to Taranto for this 20th edition.
The Mediterranean Village will offer an original configuration: installed within the Italian naval base, it will host the vast majority of participants aboard two cruise ships.
