The Nocturnes at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco

Latest News

On Saturday, August 25, from 7 PM to midnight, the last nighttime event at the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco will take place. Those who are not yet familiar with this historic site, founded by Prince Albert I of Monaco (the great-great-grandfather of the current Prince Albert), will not be disappointed.

With its majestic 100-meter-long façade, the sea temple overlooks the Mediterranean and spans 6,500 square meters of spaces where art and science intertwine.

A dive into the marine environment will amaze both young and old, thanks to its aquariums where more than 6,000 fish specimens swim in faithfully recreated natural habitats. Extraordinary species from tropical seas and the Mediterranean, not to mention the incredible diversity of inhabitants of a thriving coral reef and the monumental 400,000-liter Shark Lagoon.

Above the rooms dedicated to marine life, visitors can immerse themselves in the world of Albert I, the Monegasque Prince and adventurer, who was one of the first to elevate oceanography to a science. His cabinet of curiosities has been faithfully recreated, showcasing marine specimens brought back from around the globe (including the skeleton of a 15-meter-long whale), ship models, and various measurement tools.

A little further on, the marine world meets the world of art through the exhibition by English artist Marc Quinn. Titled “The Littoral Zone,” about sixty works focusing on the themes of origin and the cycle of life have found their (temporary) place at the MoM.

To conclude the visit to the Museum by night, all visitors are invited to gather on its panoramic terrace between sea and mountain. With a breathtaking view, a non-alcoholic drink offered by the MoM team, families will be able to greet the seven land turtles that inhabit the place while awaiting the start of the festivities: pyromelodic fireworks and a ballet of boats that have also come to enjoy the spectacle!
