On August 28, 1944, the day of the Liberation of Nice by the Allied forces and the partisans and resistance fighters of the Free France forces, 32 citizens of Nice fell under enemy fire and 280 were injured in intense street fighting.
On the occasion of the 68th anniversary of the liberation of Nice, Christian Estrosi, Deputy Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, wished to pay tribute to the men whose courage allowed Nice to regain honor and freedom.
The City of Nice is organizing a parade of vintage military vehicles and an exhibition of military objects at Place Masséna, in partnership with the MVCG Southeast Côte d’Azur association.
Residents of Nice are invited to pay tribute to the civilian victims of the liberation by participating in commemorative ceremonies and wreath-laying events organized at various monuments and memorials erected in their memory.
