The 6th edition of the Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon will take place this Sunday, November 10, on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, with the finish line in front of the InterContinental Carlton Hotel in Cannes.
The race will start at 8:00 AM, with Paula Radcliffe, the Patron of this 6th edition at the invitation of Peace and Sport, giving the signal. More than 12,500 participants[1] across the 4 available race formats will be present this year.
The Favorites of the Competition
This year again, all eyes will be on Ethiopian Yared SHAREW, credited with an excellent time of 2h08’10’’ and who finished second in the last Seville Marathon in 2h12’35’’, the best among all the announced competitors.
On paper, Kenyan William BIAMA, whose personal best is 2h09’53’’ and who finished second in last year’s Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes Marathon, should be a strong opponent for SHAREW, as well as Ethiopian Abdisa SORI who has a personal best of 2h10’15’’.
In the women’s category, the battle for the podium should be between Kenyan Salina JEBET, holding a personal best of 2h23’22’, and Ethiopian Te’ Ame SHUMYE, winner of the 2011 edition with a personal best of 2h30’53’’. For the record, the time of 2 hours, 30 minutes, and 37 seconds set by Radiya ROBA (KEN) in 2010 still stands.
The Champions of Peace at the start of this 6th edition
The Peace and Sport team will also be represented in the race with the illustrious Wilson Kipketer, Triple World Champion in the 800m, who will run the individual marathon and the first relay from Nice to Cagnes-sur-Mer, and who will be the patron of the Peace and Sport team.
This team will compete in the relay format with the great Hicham El Guerrouj, distance and middle-distance specialist and World record-holder in the 1500m, and Frenchman Marc Raquil, a 400m specialist, not to mention Vénuste Niyongabo who was the first and only Burundian to win the Olympic Champion title in the 5000m at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.
