At a time when the social and solidarity economy is on the verge of being recognized by a framework law under development, the Social and Solidarity Economy must reinvent the different models (economic/legal/statutory) that it has historically relied upon in order to develop and scale up.


ecosolidaire.jpg In France, they represent over 222,900 employer establishments, accounting for 9.5% of French companies, and more than 2.34 million employees, which is 10.3% of the total salaried employment in France, for an economic weight of 85 billion euros or 3.2% of GDP.

The Social and Solidarity Economy in the Alpes-Maritimes consists of 2,933 employer establishments, providing 30,568 jobs, which is 8.2% of the department’s employment in 2011.

Another Way of Conceiving the Economy

There are indeed structures that stand out by their mode of organization and their purpose: they implement socially beneficial projects, bring people together through the implementation of a project around participatory governance, and reconcile collective interest objectives with non-profit economic activities.

These enterprises are cooperatives, mutual societies, associations, and foundations and are present across all sectors of activity, from banking to culture, including fair trade.

Marc Daunis, the ESS law rapporteur in the Senate, is one of the main actors and defenders of this project. He will hold a conference on the theme: “The Social and Solidarity Economy, an Opportunity for France” this Wednesday, December 4th at 7 PM at the Socialist Party Federation, 9 Biscarra Street.
