The monarchies are undeniably the queens of this summer 2011 in the Principality of Monaco. In the wake of the princely wedding on July 2, 2011, this new summer edition offers visitors a true Tour of Europe of 20 monarchies to discover through remarkable sovereigns and emblematic couples.

700 artworks from private or national collections of these sovereign houses, as well as from major museums, illustrate this journey through time, from the 16th to the 20th century.

A true journey through time from the 17th to the 20th centuries, visitors encounter great imperial, royal, and princely figures through sumptuous or moving presentations that plunge us into the heart of the life, role, and passions of these personalities or couples who have marked the history of their dynasty and their country.

This journey thus highlights their era, without forgetting their actions in the artistic, historical, and scientific fields.

The general curatorship is led by Catherine Arminjon, general conservator of heritage, who has, among other things, curated the exhibitions: “Cathedrals of France,” “Androuet du Cerceau,” “Versailles and the Royal Tables in Europe,” “When Versailles Was Furnished with Silver.”

Patricia Bouchenot-Déchin, deputy curator, is a historian, associate researcher at the Versailles research center, and was notably deputy curator of the exhibition “Splendors of the Saxon Court.”

Finally, Wilfried Zeisler took charge of the Russia section.
