The ENS (Erasmus Student Network) association organized the 10th edition of the Welcome Day, an orientation day for international students, on Thursday, February 5th in Nice. The aim of this event is to accompany and inform international students about student life in the city of Nice and at the University.

There were a great many students who came to the Valrose Castle Theater last night. Students came from all over Europe, and beyond. Andrรฉa is 24 years old. She comes from Colombia to study French for seven months at the Faculty of Letters, Arts, and Humanities in Nice. “It’s very important to attend this event today. It allows me to learn more about the city of Nice, to meet other students who, like me, have left their country. Especially, the ENS offers us student pass cards that allow us to get discounts,” says Andrรฉa.

Upon arrival, the students received a Welcome Book, a guide for international students in Nice. It was published by ENS, in collaboration with the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis. Jean-Christophe Martin, Vice President in charge of international relations at UNS, was also present during Welcome Day. He wanted to welcome all the international students who have chosen the city of Nice. “The University of Nice Sophia Antipolis is particularly attractive and we are delighted by this. Of the 26,000 students welcomed each year, 5,000 are of foreign nationality. I’m not naรฏve; I know this is due to the geographical setting and climate, but also to our institution’s reputation in research and the quality of its programs. Your presence here is proof of that,” he says.

“Our ties with ENS are strong. We work hand in hand to conduct this kind of event as well as other gatherings. This experience in terms of international mobility is important for you. Studies have shown that a student who has benefited from international mobility is much more likely to find a job quickly. Professional integration is a strong point,” he adds.

Graig Monetti, president of the association FACE06, also wanted to welcome the students. He addressed them by sharing a beautiful motto: “Erasmus is simply one thing: at your home, we are at home and at our home, right here, you are at home.”
