This week, discover the Prehistoric Site of Terra Amata: A journey into the environment of the first inhabitants of Nice, 400,000 years ago.


terra-amata.jpg On Friday, October 7th at 6:30 PM, Bertrand Roussel, Director of Collections at the Terra Amata Museum of Human Paleontology, will present a conference unveiling the environment of the first inhabitants of Nice, 400,000 years ago.

At that time, the territory of what is now the city of Nice was very different from what we know today: elephants and rhinoceroses occupied the surroundings of the prehistoric site of Terra Amata while the Castle Rock was an island.

We invite you to discover the life of these first inhabitants of Nice. The climate was warmer than today. During the nice season, they set up their huts on the beach, at the back of a cove, near a spring. They hunted elephants, rhinoceroses, deer, aurochs, and wild boars. Their tools, such as choppers, cleavers, or hand axes, were primarily made from pebbles collected on the beachโ€ฆ
