For this reason, we will limit ourselves to asking candidates not for one more commitment but simply to read what follows and not forget, from April 1st, the contents of these proposals.

More and more local communities are encouraging cycling with facilities and services that make life easier for cyclists and encourage a change in habits.

The 2014-2020 municipal mandate will allow for the strengthening of the ongoing action and its deployment across all territorial scales.

They invite candidates and future elected officials to consider these proposals in their projects and prioritize actions starting in 2014.

For 35 million Europeans, cycling is the primary mode of travel. 5% of French people use it daily for commuting, and 40% occasionally.

The practice of cycling as a mode of transportation and leisure has been experiencing a revival in France since the 2000s, with its growth potential being considerable! In the city, where more than 50% of car trips are less than 2 km and in suburban or rural areas.

In 2014, adopting the habit of cycling is necessary: by asking, for each project, if the cyclist, but also the pedestrian, is considered in the tools and approaches to transition from a car-centric city to a fluid city, a city for all.

Encouraging cycling means choosing a harmonious city, where the function of movement does not dominate all other urban functions. A city for everyone, not focused on speed, where people move, meet, work, and stay.

Calm traffic and reducing the relative speed of motorized vehicles are the primary conditions for coexistence and shared street use: the road and public space need to be developed not solely to manage car flow but to ensure the safety of all street users.

Are you willing to implement measures for:

The development of calm areas—shared spaces and 30 zones—that facilitate walking and cycling and the coexistence of street users,

The extension of the 30-zone concept to all service roads and sections on circulation axes, following the different priorities given to each road: more local life or more circulation of all modes of travel,

The hierarchical structuring of roads at the urban agglomeration level, with the goal of generalizing the 30 km/h limit to more than 50% – 70%, an approach being adopted in an increasing number of territories.

So, what do you think?
