The standoff between the FN and Christian Estrosi has taken a new turn during the latest session of the Metropolitan Council: while the motion concerning the crusade against processionary caterpillars received unanimous support, the one against the so-called Muslim extremists of the UOIF was deemed “unacceptable” since any action against this national organization would fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Interior and Religions.
One wonders the reason for such a decision considering that a vast majority would have voted against this motion which, moreover, had formally nothing to do with the justification used by the President of the Metropolis.
Fear of the debate more than the motion?
In fact, the FN simply wanted to highlight Christian Estrosi’s policies, which in interviews advocates a hardline stance against radical Islamism, does not want an “official” mosque such as the one in Plaine du Var, but he maintains good relations with the Muslim faith community by making concessions here and there.
All this fuels the ire of Philippe Vardon who has made the crusade against Islamists his battle cry and never misses an opportunity to try to put Christian Estrosi at odds with his contradictions.
Thus, this Thursday, at the conclusion of the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolitan Council, Christian Estrosi refused to allow the assembly to vote on the motion filed by the Front National.
The president of the Metropolis refused to present the motion, considering that it was not within the Metropolitan Council’s purview to rule on the dissolution of the UOIF.
“Certainly, that’s true… but that was not at all the purpose of the motion! Through this, we asked that Cรดte d’Azur Habitat, a public housing office under the Nice Cรดte d’Azur Metropolis, stop housing a UOIF mosque in one of its premises. A subject evidently troublesome for Christian Estrosi (who houses another UOIF mosque in municipal premises) if one believes the agitation among his cabinet members a few minutes before the motion was to be studied.
This time, Christian Estrosi won’t be able to get away with a trick and a lie, and now it will be before the Administrative Court that our lawyers will ensure to remind him what the respect for democracy means, but also more prosaically, that of the internal regulations,” declares Marie-Christine Arnautu, FN metropolitan councilor.
