Gaza: Secours Catholique-Caritas France launches an appeal for donations

Latest News

For several weeks, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been mired in violence, causing more and more casualties among the civilian populations. The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire.

The Secours Catholique-Caritas France is mobilizing by supporting the programs of its local partners, Caritas Jerusalem and the Pontifical Missionary Works.

The association is releasing an initial emergency aid of 150,000 euros and launching a call for donations.

Since the beginning of the “Protective Edge” operation, Caritas Jerusalem and the Pontifical Mission have been acting in the Gaza Strip to assist the affected civilian populations.

The humanitarian situation is rapidly deteriorating as the fighting intensifies.

The latest figures from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) report 1.8 million people affected (which represents the entire population of Gaza), 3,504 women and children injured, and 117,000 displaced. Civilian populations are particularly affected; already 999 Palestinians have been killed, of which 75% are estimated to be civilians according to the UN, along with 46 Israelis.

Faced with this dramatic situation, Secours Catholique-Caritas France and its local partners have implemented an emergency program.

These projects aim to provide primary and secondary medical assistance, food and non-food assistance, and psychosocial support to the populations in Gaza affected by the conflict. The programs include several components: the provision of medicines, medical equipment, and fuel for hospitals and clinics, hygiene kits, medical treatments, as well as a psychosocial component directed towards children.

These programs, lasting six months, aim to quickly respond to the crisis situation experienced by the population of Gaza.
