Pressed by the Prefecture, Imam Sadouni backtracks.

Accused by regional councilor (FN) Philippe Vardon (who called on the Prefect and the Prosecutor) of making unacceptable remarks (โ€œIf there are attacks, it’s the fault of the French secularismโ€) during an interview with an Italian newspaper, Imam Sadouni (whose activities take place in the Moulins district) was forced to deny them, failing which โ€œall necessary measures will be implemented under the state of emergency,โ€ communicated the prefecture, which reported this article to the Public Prosecutor.

As of July 22, in a Facebook post, Abdelkader Sadouni explained: โ€œI want to formally deny the statements attributed to me in this article; at no time did I say that French secularism is responsible for the attacks or that I understand young French people leaving for Syria, these statements are extremely serious! Consequently, I have decided to file a complaint against the newspaper and the author of the article.โ€

Wouldn’t it have been better for him to remain silent instead of engaging with someone who, not speaking French properly, was not well-positioned to fully understand his statements?

In these delicate times, caution is not an empty word.
