It has been two years since the Girondins managed to win on Nice soil (1-2, 0-1), and at the start of the 2014/2015 season, the people of Nice are keen to reverse the trend and confirm the promising performances of the first two games.
However, caution is advised against the Bordeaux team, who have started the championship perfectly with a win on the first day in Montpellier (0-1) and an outstanding performance at home last week against the formidable Monaco team (4-1). Willy Sagnol’s men will come to defend their first place in the standings with 4 points, 4 goals scored, and only one conceded. Dream statistics that, of course, are related to the small number of games played so far.
On the Nice side, there is no getting carried away, and it is known that the opponent will be very tough on the Allianz Riviera side and that they will have to fight to the end to continue an unbeaten streak in this new season, which for the moment does not seem to resemble the last. And, even if the Girondins’ infirmary is well-stocked with Plasil, Saivet, and Jussié, danger will be present on the Nice pitch. “It’s going to be a tough match where both teams will look to play ball. Bordeaux has always had good teams and will certainly be playing at the top of the table this season. It’s for this kind of matches that we play. It will be a good match; we hope to come out with the 3 points.” says Alexy Bosetti on the club’s website. Dario Cvitanich, still not fit enough, will not be aligned, just like the other already known absentees: Mathieu Bodmer, Didier Digard, and Mahamane Traoré.
A tough match, and between tough starters of the season, with results hoped for by both clubs but not necessarily always present last season. Nevertheless, the many spectators who will be present tonight in the Plaine du Var can expect a beautiful clash of styles between two teams that will be playing for a certainly ephemeral but always appreciated leadership position in a group. The famous spirals…
The objective is three points for Claude Puel and Willy Sagnol, who will have clear ambitions before receiving Bastia for the Girondins, while the people of Nice will have their first big meeting in the new Vélodrome stadium for the traditional Southern derby against Olympique de Marseille. But, for now, it is the third matchday, which will only be beautiful with the scent of victory, or at worst, with the small point of a draw.
See you tonight from 8 p.m. to find out if the Bellet rosé will go down better than the red Château Margaux…
