As every year, on September 24th, Pyramids of Shoes and thousands of citizens will rise all over France to call for an end to the bombing of civilians. In Nice, Handicap International is inviting all citizens to gather today for a day of mobilization.
Throwing a shoe, signing a petition… seemingly trivial actions, yet they are powerful and symbolic acts to protest against the use of anti-personnel mines and cluster bombs.
Launched in 1995 by Handicap International, the Pyramid of Shoes, organized in many cities across Europe, has become the annual rallying point for citizens against anti-personnel mines, and since 2004, against cluster munitions (BASM).
For 22 years, they have symbolized the stand against the barbarity of weapons that indiscriminately kill, injure, and shatter lives.
This Saturday, Handicap International invites the people of Nice to participate in this major day of popular mobilization.
