The President of the Departmental Council, Eric Ciotti, questioned the Head of State regarding the delay in state aid following the storms on October 3rd and 4th. In response, the Head of State replied with a letter confirming a commitment to a swift and effective response.
However, the President of the Republic denied the request from Eric Ciotti (and the mayor of Cannes) regarding the possibility of a moratorium on the reduction of state transfers to local governments.
“The expression of national solidarity towards the City of Cannes and other affected municipalities cannot fall within an exceptional framework outside ordinary law,” François Hollande stated to the applicants, reminding them that in 2015, 935 municipalities were declared under the natural disaster regime and benefited from public aid.
Very soon, 14 additional municipalities besides those in the Alpes-Maritimes will receive such treatment.
In the evening, the prefecture announced that “based on initial assessments of damage to uninsurable assets of local authorities, an initial envelope of 10 million euros has been released by the Government.”
Furthermore, “an interministerial inspection mission tasked with assessing the damage began its work on-site on October 26th to precisely determine the aid that the State will provide for the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure.”
