The 8th edition of the Marathon des Alpes-Maritimes Nice-Cannes will take place this Sunday, starting from the Promenade des Anglais to connect with Cannes in front of the InterContinental Carlton Hotel. The race will start at 8 a.m.
Who will break the record of 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 40 seconds?
More than 14,000 participants in the three race formats offered will be present this year, a nice performance for this internationally renowned event, the first Marathon in France after Paris.
This year, Kenyan Bellor YATOR, the best announced contender on paper, with a personal record of 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 39 seconds, and who finished last year in 5th place, will be the favorite, certainly determined to take his revenge.
Following him, his compatriot Moses KURGAT, with a personal record of 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 40 seconds, and Ethiopian Tedesse AREDO, winner of the Padua Marathon in 2 hours, 9 minutes, and 2 seconds in 2011, should be close contenders.
But we should not forget Kenyan Barnabas KIPTUM, with a personal record of 2 hours, 10 minutes, and 29 seconds. Last year, KIPTUM led almost the entire race and narrowly missed the first place on the podium.
As a reminder, since 2011, the men’s record is still held by Kenyan Lukas KANDA at 2 hours, 8 minutes, and 40 seconds.
On the women’s side, there shouldn’t be much suspense regarding the podium, as Kenyan Rose CHEPCHUMBA, a finalist of the 2014 edition with a new personal record of 2 hours, 33 minutes, and 52 seconds, and her compatriot Emily ROTICH, with a time of 2 hours, 32 minutes, and 10 seconds, and who finished second in 2014, 2012, and 2010, are confirmed again for this edition.
Also to watch at the front of the women’s pack: Ethiopian Girma WOYNISHET, a newcomer to the event with a personal time of 2 hours, 27 minutes, and 51 seconds, and her compatriot Tigist WORKU (2 hours, 37 minutes, and 28 seconds).
As a reminder, the record of 2 hours, 30 minutes, and 37 seconds set by Kenyan Radiya ROBA in 2010 still stands.
Worth noting this year is the participation of a French woman in the women’s start list, Alizée BARRIER, who will make her marathon debut.
