The mistake has been corrected. Absent from the first draft of the new European Commission, sport has regained its place.
At the request of Jean-Claude Juncker, its president, the portfolio of Hungarian Tibor Navracsics has been modified to include a sporting component. The European Commissioner is now in charge of Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports.
A decision met with great satisfaction.
Sport today represents 3.7% of the European GDP, employs 15 million people, and proves to be an essential element of social cohesion, public health, and economic growth.
