In order to encourage and facilitate voluntary contributions and sorting practices, the Municipality decided to reorganize the traffic within and around the Nice West recycling center. Pierre-Paul Leonelli, Deputy Mayor in charge of cleanliness, inaugurated this new arrangement yesterday morning.
Originally located opposite the Moulins district, the Nice West recycling center was relocated in 2007 to facilitate the construction of the Saint-Augustin police station. Currently located on the new Avenue Simone Veil, the recycling center attracts more than 55 vehicles per day, which equates to 17,200 vehicles per year, or more than 39,600 users per year.
Started in May 2018 for an amount of โฌ520,000, this work aimed to facilitate and secure access to the recycling center by moving the entrance, originally on Avenue Sainte-Marguerite, to Avenue Simone Veil and implementing arrangements within the recycling center to avoid any crossover of cars.
“It is important to explain to our fellow citizens that going to a free recycling center is an eco-friendly gesture that needs to be adopted,” Pierre-Paul Lรฉonelli emphasized.
Some activities that generated noise disturbances have also been relocated, and gates limiting the size of accepted vehicles have been installed to reduce noise and streamline traffic.
This work will continue in 2019 with the construction of two weighbridges intended to limit usage to private individuals, the enhancement of video surveillance, and the implementation of electrically-powered mono-compactors, which will further reduce noise disturbances and improve material sorting.
