Initially planned in Switzerland, the president of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) David Lappartient confirmed the holding of the Road Cycling World Championships during a press briefing this Friday in Nice.
“There will indeed be Road World Championships this year, they will take place on the scheduled dates (from September 20 to 27, editor’s note),” he stated.
Although a bid has not been officially made by the city, the UCI president seems enthusiastic about the idea of hosting these World Championships in Nice: “I required a course similar to the original one. It was intended to be challenging, and some riders had made these World Championships one of their goals. Everything would be perfect for hosting the World Championships here. If all cities loved cycling as much as Nice does, cycling would be in great shape.”
The decision on the site will be announced on September 1st.
