Time can seem long in the Atlantic. While the first ones enter the Doldrums, it’s tough going for those behind.
After nine days of racing, the situation still hasn’t improved for the IMOCA yachts at the back of the fleet. Only 60 nautical miles separate the competitors from 25th to 30th place. Alexia Barrier is stuck in this small group, which is experiencing weak winds averaging seven knots. They’re all heading west to pass Cape Verde within the next 48 hours, trailing 2,700 km behind Alex Thomson, who is leading the race.
Benefiting from much more favorable weather conditions and a next-generation monohull, it’s impossible for the ones trailing behind to keep up. But the objective is different! Conducting research, pursuing personal timing goals… Everyone has their mission in this Vendée!
So it’s a matter of waiting for more favorable conditions to cover the remaining 42,400 kilometers!
