Nice suffers a heavy home defeat against the league’s bottom team, Dijon (1-3), and remains uncertain after the defeat against Slavia Prague this Thursday (1-3).
The first half is disastrous for the Gym, as they present no movement. The players lack rhythm and the Dijon team, who have yet to win in Ligue 1 this season, manage the ball quite easily.
This domination is confirmed in the first half with two goals. The first is scored by Mama Baldé (21st minute). The second goal is scored by Ngonda Muzinga, who superbly finishes a cross at the far post.
In the second half, the Nice team tries to regain some control, but it is rather disappointing with sterile possession that doesn’t lead to dangerous chances.
Eventually, due to a huge mistake by Danilo, who passes the ball back to Benitez too timidly, the Dijon striker Mama Baldé capitalizes and slightly touches the ball with his foot. Benitez, who had come out to prevent Baldé from recovering it, is caught off guard, and the ball calmly crosses the goal line.
The only bright spot in this match was the substitutions of Rony Lopes and Alexis Trouillet, who brought energy to the team and created a few dangerous opportunities. Towards the end of the match, the Nice team earns a penalty which Gouiri converts.
But this is not enough to salvage the game, which is completely botched by the Gym, casting further doubt as they face a likely elimination from the Europa League.
