As vaccination accelerates, the number of patients in critical care remains in the red.

Health authorities have recorded 5,769, compared to 5,757 on Friday. Some 388 patients were admitted within 24 hours to these services reserved for the most severe cases (intensive care, critical care, continuous surveillance).

This closely monitored indicator is again getting closer to the peak of the first wave (a little more than 7,000 patients in early April 2020). The peak of the second wave (a little more than 4,900 patients in intensive care in mid-November) was surpassed at the end of March.

The pressure on hospital services in general remains very high with now 30,238 Covid patients being treated in hospitals, compared to 30,326 on Friday, a figure that has slightly decreased since Wednesday. Out of this total, 1,649 people have been admitted to a hospital since the day before.

In 24 hours, 210 new deaths were recorded in hospitals, bringing the total to 98,605 deaths since the beginning of the epidemic (including 72,450 in hospitals).

On the immunization front, 3,684,788 people have received two doses of the vaccine, according to figures from the Directorate-General of Health, while 10,745,234 first doses have been administered.
