The vote will, however, be postponed by a week, from June 20 to June 27, even though 56% of mayors who responded to the consultations expressed their support for maintaining the elections.

This Wednesday, it will be the Senate’s turn to make a decision. Then a decree will be presented next week at the Council of Ministers.

The use of proxy voting will be facilitated again, allowing each voter to have two proxy votes.

A permanent monitoring committee will be established, chaired by Jean-Denis Combrexelle, former president of the litigation section of the Council of State.

[…] No one would have understood if the elections were postponed once more. By proposing to hold them in June, the government has aligned with common sense.”
