The Chamber of Commerce and Industry has unveiled the figures for the year 2016.
In parallel with an economic recovery, which started as a glimmer after years of hardship and gradually transformed into solid growth, the creation of businesses has gained momentum.
The consequence? Like on a national level, 2016 is a very good year for business creation in the Alpes-Maritimes.
After a slowdown until 2014, business creation in the Cรดte d’Azur* experienced a strong rebound since 2015 (with a +20% increase in 2015). Good news, this rise continued in 2016 with +9.4%: this year, they account for more than 5,300 businesses in the Alpes-Maritimes.
A large majority of business creations are in the services sector (60%), notably in business services and accommodation-food services. The two other main sectors generating business creation are construction and trade, now representing 18% each.
It should be noted that these business creations are almost exclusively ‘pure’ creations. In 2016, in our department, 570 businesses were subject to a takeover, a decrease of 3% compared to 2015.
Businesses have an improving medium-term survival rate: in 2014, only 64% were still active after 5 years. In 2016, 70% of them endure past 5 years.
