Metropolitan Council: A Tax Referendum Requested by the National Front

Latest News

Certainly, the new property tax on built land that Christian Estrosi had passed during the Metropolitan Council session last Monday is not being well received!

The councilors allied with Eric Ciotti took the opportunity to shatter the unanimity of the majority group and formโ€”at least in practiceโ€”an autonomous group that voted against the resolution.

The traditional oppositions, from the extreme right and various right-wing parties to the left, finally have a topic to raise their voices and fuel the controversy.

Moreover, Christian Estrosi should not be surprised, as he spent the Hollande quinquennial criticizing all initiatives and resolutions. Even the rain was the government’s responsibility!

The request from the FN (National Front) elected officials, who played the game well, is an act of provocation and one can imagine it will not be followed up on.

However, it is potentially dangerous and will allow the former National Front membersโ€”now “movimentists”โ€”to cry “foul” in any case.

It is well known that reaching into citizens’ pockets is never appreciated, even if in this case, at least, there are some valid explanations, such as funding investments.

However, the citizen has a very narrow and utilitarian view; they do not look far ahead, quite the opposite, their view is shortsighted and stops at their pockets.

New property tax: FN metropolitan councilors demand a referendum!

In accordance with articles L 1112-1 to L 1112-22 of the General Code of Territorial Collectivities, Marie-Christine Arnautu and Gรฉrard Vanderborck, Front National metropolitan councilors (elected in Nice and Cagnes-sur-Mer), invite Mr. Christian Estrosi, President of the NCA Metropolitan Council, to decide by decree the organization of a metropolitan referendum, consultative or decision-making, on the creation of the new property tax.

In case of refusal, the FN metropolitan councilors will submit an amendment during the debate on the initial budget, aiming to submit the entire initial budget to a referendum, calling for it to be rejected.

Indeed, in the face of this unbearable tax pressure, they believe that all the inhabitants of the metropolis must be clearly informed and able to make their voices heard following a genuine public debate.
