The series of sacred music concerts for the current season will conclude this Friday at 8 PM at the Basilica of Notre-Dame, with, in the first part of the program, Charpentier’s very famous Te Deum, which, since being chosen as the Eurovision theme in 1953, has become a huge “hit” of the repertoire.
From its opening notes, this work transports everyoneโs imagination back to the time of the sparkling festivities and celebrations of Louis XIV’s Versailles.
The audience will then be able to hear Vivaldi’s Gloria. Probably composed between 1714 and 1716, this piece is written for two sopranos, an alto, a four-part mixed choir, and a string orchestra with continuo, along with occasional trumpet and oboe.
The musicians of the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra and the voices of the Nice Opera Choir will be under the baton of the latter’s music director, Giulio Magnanini.
