This Sunday at 9 PM at the Amphitheater in Opio, Charles Berling will read “The Diamond as Big as the Ritz” (Robert Laffont) by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Charles Berling is an actor, director, filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, author, and singer. After about ten years of a theatrical career with demanding texts (Lagarce, Molière, Botho Strauss…), he became known in Patrice Leconte’s film “Ridicule” in 1996, which earned him a nomination for the César Award for Best Actor. He has played a variety of roles, from a somewhat self-conscious provincial laundry owner in “Dry Cleaning” to an ambitious executive in “Demonlover.” He also alternates between auteur films and popular films. In 2010, he was appointed director of the Liberté Theater in Toulon with his brother Philippe. Charles Berling released an album titled “Young Singer” in 2012, collaborating with Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Philippe Jakko, and Bertrand Burgalat for composition, and wrote the lyrics for all his songs. In 2015, he directed his first feature film adapted from his book “Today, Mom is Dead” with Emmanuelle Riva, François Damiens, Ludivine Sagnier… He was recently featured in Michel Boujenah’s film “The Heart in Braille.” He will be starring in “Fleuve noir,” a film by Érick Zonca set to be released in the summer of 2018 alongside Vincent Cassel and Sandrine Kiberlain, as well as in “Art” by Yasmina Reza at the Théâtre Antoine.
