She took the opportunity to improve her personal best…
The French swimmer Charlotte Bonnet won the first European title for French swimming in the 200 m freestyle by claiming victory in the final at the European Championships on Monday in Glasgow. The favorite, the Nice native, in 1 min 54 sec 95/100, improved her personal best to significantly outpace the Dutch swimmer Femke Heemskerk (1:56.72) and the Russian Anastasia Guzhenkova (1:56.77).
Charlotte Bonnet succeeded where others, including Laure Manadou, had failed: she won the first European title in the 200 m freestyle for French swimming.
The 23-year-old from Nice, who only placed 3rd in 2016, learned from her mistakes to go for gold. A clear favorite in the race, after having set the best European time of the season (1:55.53) a little earlier, Bonnet managed her competition throughout the event.
This marks the 4th French medal in Scotland, her second personal one after the title in the 4×100 freestyle. Bonnet could continue her medal haul starting Sunday with the 100 m.
